Black Knitted Scarf

Black Knit Scarf_201406

Winter Craft Project

Well the winter weather has well and truly settled in here in Melbourne after the unusually warm balmy month of May we had. Time to dig deep into the closet and re-asses my collection of scarves. While I have some pretty ones I’ve bought which are made from gorgeous fabrics, I do love a soft knitted scarf too.

Going back a few years, I decided that I’d try to remember how to knit after having been taught as a young girl from mum. I found the Patons ‘Learn to Knit’ guidebook had basic instructions that were easy to follow. Scarves are a great project to start with as a beginner, and that’s where my knitting ends too. I haven’t progressed on to any more complicated projects. Oh well at least I’ve made some lovely scarves for myself, family and friends.

If you too are a beginner at knitting and want to make yourself a nice basic scarf using that special wool you’ve picked out, here are the details for the scarf I’ve just finished.

3 skeins of 8 ply black wool – For this scarf I chose a lovely soft Italian merino wool called Zara by Filatura Di Crosa

Size 6 knitting needles (Recommended needle size is actually 4mm, however I’ve chosen a larger size for a looser knit).

Width – Cast on 25 stitches

Knit all rows (garter stitch)

The length of my scarf is 160cm.

Happy knitting!
